THE BOYS - SEASON 3While it comes as no surprise that the long-awaited third season of The Boys delivered with entertaining banter, the creativity of an ongoing plot, and lots and lots of gore, it is surprising that this held back on what it is capable of. Advertising its selling factor with the new character, Soldier Boy, the slow build-up/finale did not live up to what he and everyone else had the ability to do. Building a slow-burn type of development mixed with a collective structure that was meant to lead to the beginning of the end, the season instead feels unfinished. The different pace of the story and shift of political direction may be different, but that is not the problem, as it is quite a needed shift for where the characters are going. Where it goes wrong is solely in the final episode. Missing its mark for anything fulfilling, this did not give an impressed feeling at the time it mattered. In fact, it was quite the opposite - it was a letdown. Given the plain ending to an exceptional form of satire, it doesn't ruin the series, as this gave time to develop character arcs, set in motion a scarily realistic reality, and simply acted on an inventive idea. Rather, this makes you wonder, why at this point, The Boys would not give you everything it has in its final moments on screen when it always has.

THE BOYS - SEASON 2Coming back for a second season that is filled with the gore and sophisticated humor that is extravagantly funny as ever, this lacks in terms of a satisfactory season. While the directing, screenwriting, and cinematography were on point (with no surprise there) it just didn't leave the audience as speechless as season one. But, Anthony Starr provides a chilling and remarkably beautiful lead role that is incomparable, who truly shines from the series and only gets better the more you see him. Although this doesn't top the previous season, The Boy's second season is a dark, over-the-top storyline that is unlike anything else that is worth everyone's time and is easily binge-able.

THE BOYS - SEASON 1This show plays in on a realistic take of what "modern" superheroes are cracked up to be. Having a mature tone to this production, it creates a sophisticated feel to a concept that is not formally affiliated as that. However, paired with clever, laugh out loud humor that is both clearly stated and in-between the lines, this sophistication goes hand in hand with a creatively written plot. Featuring plenty of action and gore, this finds a way to be excessive in a controlled manner, providing its vibe that comes while watching. Season one of The Boys is a must to see for anyone and is one of the most well-executed, original concepts in today's age.

THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTYWhether the senseless praise this has been given is collectively (discluding me) true or the fan girls for the so-terrible-it's-good products are the critics, The Summer I Turned Pretty is neither well made nor easy to watch. While it's undeniably impossible to take your eyes off the screen - no matter how painful the second-hand embarrassment may become - I can't put my finger on my feelings regarding this latest book-to-screen adaptation. From incredibly forced and awkward performances to dialogue that is nowhere near realistic, there is little this series lays down as fathomable interactions. And while more times than not you turn away from the screen due to the poorly done and overly cringe-worthy moments, the bottom line comes down to the fact that I watched this as fast as possible. Though absolutely nothing creative or appreciatable (on a scale of professionalism or criticism) was done to this, this teen rom-com formula gets views. Even with an exaggerated soundtrack that takes advantage of its privilege of including popular music and characters that are flat, predictable, and horrendously portrayed, I can safely say I will stream the next season. I would never watch this for a second time, yet sometimes it's suprsingly refreshing to watch something so close to the edge of being unwatchable, that it becomes the perfect BAM! product.

THE WHITE LOTUSWhile The White Lotus has its fair share of boring times, cheap writing, and some things that don't add up, it more importantly is a great time passer and an easy, quick watch. Featuring stellar performances that are the utmost unique and individualized, the remarkable cast brings to life characters that are flat on paper. From unscripted facial expressions to uncategorized movements, the peculiar, relatable, and for some, off-putting portrayals of said characters dive into a world of raw, real-life people that can't hide their faults. Given there are too many filler scenes of scenery and odd interactions that do not feel fitting, the drive of finding out the unpredictable mystery holds the audience in until the very end. By no means is this series perfect, but a show such as this serves its purpose in not being an award-winning product, but an enjoyable, different, and effortless show to add to your watchlist.

NORMAL PEOPLEThe rare essence of beauty and maturing throughout one's life merely brushes the surface of describing Normal People. Showcasing the imperfections and grit of relationships throughout one's life, there are more than one themes that reign true for each and every one of us. Depicting accurately the struggle of mental health, asking for help, and sharing your feelings with others is one of the most realistic adaptations within recent years. Fueled by rageful and down-to-earth performances, this series never fails to miss a beat in practically dedicating its runtime to candidly showing heartbreak and love. Worth your tears, laughs, and time, though utterly one of the purest and raw emotional rides a series has taken me through, this is a must-see.

EUPHORIA - SEASON ONECentering around a realistically struggling protagonist who doesn't always have a happy ending, Euphoria is one of the most realistic adaptions of both drug abuse and the emotions of high schoolers. While not all of the situations feel as believable for the age group, the presentation of details, however, immerse the viewers into a world where it's not questioned. And that's what this effortlessly gets right - an unspoken vibe with a collected, cohesive and undisputed society. The undeniably raw and chilling performances from everyone involved, furthermore, accentuate the realism and captivating feeling of not being able to take your eyes off the screen. With the help of superb lighting and a keen directorial eye, this cinematically tells just as much as its subject matter digs into the audience. Not to mention an incredibly descriptive score, persuasive and convincing don't even come close to being able to describe the essence of this influential series.

EUPHORIA - SEASON TWOPicking up without missing a beat, season two of Euphoria still delivers on an immersive picture but leaves active storylines in the dust. Though time was given to a few supporting characters that are in utter deserve, the rest feels like filler development rather than respectable development - the cast and talent within are brilliant and evident, but the content and attention to detail are no longer superior. Yet words cannot begin to compliment the commendable, unhinged performance from Zendaya. While having her outstanding moments within the first season, the breathtaking intricacies and movements are one of the rawest adaptations within cinema. Despite its faulty writing and absent-mindedness of important subplots, from the continuation of a telling score, exceptional performances, and exemplary ease of creating a world to live in, this may not collectively live up to its predecessor, but it shines in other areas that make it worthy of watching.

ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING - SEASON ONE
Only Murders in the Building defies odds to produce a series that creates a lively progression that's complemented by interactions among a cast that is having fun. Candidly developing a concept that is well-thought-out, this self-aware humor accentuates the fresh storytelling. Setting aside the boring, lengthy, and unnecessary developmental stuff, this instantly constructs a quick-witted script that's unforeseeable. From an intuitive idea to modern satire, this first season is quick, fun, and worth the time.

TED LASSO - SEASON ONEBeginning just as similar as the known formula for a sitcom, Ted Lasso quickly shows its true colors in providing a brilliant balance between humor and sentiments. Finding a way into everyone's hearts, first with a laugh but swiftly by a wholesome spirit, the immaculate writing is credited to everything it evenly encapsulates. Delivering a fresh take onto a genre that needed the change of pace, there is little this gets wrong. Consistently flowing with an upbeat, but unrushed pace, from the leading charm of Jason Sudeikis and the passionate theme he carries along, this is sure to win over the audience in one way or another.

TED LASSO - SEASON TWOPerfectly carrying the tone and profound notions into this second season, Ted Lasso's journey, once again, effectively finds a way into your heart. Taking the time to give the much deserved screen time to supporting characters, the ride to get there made it feel as though only some were sentimental. While this isn't true and the full circle that comes around makes it very clear nothing is misplaced, this takes its time to dive deeper into everyone's perspectives - which doesn't mean it's unimportant, it rather takes a different approach. Providing the same fulfillment as its first season, from wholesome relationships, deep-rooted dialogue, and witty humor, this may be different but is just the same.

SHADOW AND BONEDespite plunging into a deeply rooted fantasy genre that takes an open mind to embrace, Shadow and Bone is surprisingly well produced and involving. From graceful cinematography to illustrative directing, the cinematic tone is established and developed cohesively with suspense. Given a colossal amount of characters and detail to process at once and for the most part, an easy to predict turn of events comes as the only, and non-stressing downfalls to this series. Capturing the balance of fantasy, anticipation, and drama, this finds a way to create its own meticulous world within its screen time and portrays a clear and effective theme.

JULIE AND THE PHANTOMSThe first season of Julie and the Phantoms undeniably has its cringy and childlike moments, yet that shouldn't halt anyone from watching it. Filled with extremely talented individuals, the amazing soundtrack has catchy and unique songs that showcase the brilliant voices and performers of such a young cast. The main characters are incredibly personable, have a funny script, and are investing. Although constructed from a usual and expected storyline, this is entertaining, and taking it for its worth, is quite captivating (both musically and cinematically).

OUTER BANKS - SEASON ONEDespite the numerous critical issues that arise within this series, this is incredibly entertaining from start to finish, even though it's slightly corny. While the things that bothered me throughout its course were prominent to me - the noticeable continuity issues, unbelievable circumstances, and the fact that none of the actors looked nor felt like they were 16 years old, that wasn't quite the focus for this. Providing occasionally funny lines, an anticipating tone, and likable characters, this succeeds in setting an amusing vibe that draws an audience toward it. Although this isn't the best thing to come out, this show is a good time passer and is worth it for someone who likes series and/or cheesy teen stories. Outer Banks' first season is quick, easy, and just good enough to hook you for another season (which is in production).

OUTER BANKS - SEASON TWOGiven the first season was only something enjoyable rather than anything well made, this loses all sense for reality and overlooks the practicality it needs. Neglecting the relevance of its ongoing storyline, the unbelievable timeline, unconvincing circumstances, and including even more continuity issues than its predecessor, simply put, it doesn't make sense anymore. Due to nothing being connected, it halts the amusing vibe it once had. Striving to do too much at once, the second season of Outer Banks loses all control, thus creating a hard-to-get-through, full of holes, lousy product. With season three already confirmed, this series is getting worse in time and lacks the only thing it once had - entertainment.

BRIDGERTON - SEASON TWOCLICK HERE FOR A LONGER AND MORE IN-DEPTH REVIEW I WROTE FOR THE GRCC STUDENT PUBLICATIONThe story of The Duke and Daphne last season was nothing more than raunchy lust - and while it was enjoyable, it offered nothing further. The story of Anthony and Kate is an observant and intense world to live in, with the balance of a slow-burn plot. While both seasons serve a purpose for the time that they were released and to please fans, it's arguable that this sophomore season outdoes its predecessor by being able to show its passion and desire in ways other than R-rated material. With quick meaningful glances, chilling chemistry, and unscriptable mannerisms within monologues, love is shown not only through physical attraction. Featuring the enemies to lovers blueprint with the exasperatingly slow development, the audience’s growing impatience sets in motion the enthralled, committed tone.
The music is pop songs stripped into an orchestra, which are creative and incredibly fitting for the time period. This collectively created a cast that came to truly show their talent, while utilizing a soundtrack that never failed to construct the exact tone of the moment. Call it simplifying an already good formula or revamping the gaze/direction toward what suits specific characters' personalities, this second season acts as an escape from our modern world. Confident in itself and its eagerness to provide, this is a perfect example of how less is more, no matter its differences from the first season. 7.5/10

BRIDGERTONAlthough it's quite apparent this was made for a romantic feeling and the viewers who like this genre, regardless, this struggled in its execution of a clever idea. Having numerous cinematic errors that did not fit the time era, there were an equal amount of aspects that did fit. Though not a large thing overall, the lack of cohesion between the two is a prime example of this series focusing too much time on some characters and/or aspects and not others. Being overly sexual/graphic at times, this could have been toned down to have the same effect. Furthermore, spending too much screen time on one conflict resulted in multiple subplots that were equally important, but were rushed to seal the deal for a "grand finale". All in all, Bridgerton is still incredibly entertaining and features an essence that satisfies the targeted audience but is unlike anything else, even with evident issues along the way.

BODYGUARD
Developing a sophisticated yet wildly suspenseful world within its short series length, the first two episodes of Bodyguard may be slow but is made up by the unpredictable finale and deep-rooted dedication to the storyline. Creating an unsettling and troubling feeling that only grows throughout its screen time, not only does this simply feel cinematic, but it encourages the beautifully intertwined score. Complimenting the detailed and composed progression of both the visuals and sound, the candidly raw lead performance from Richard Madden is extensively profound. Despite ending with a few plot points that got carried away, this is a deeply underrated series that provides a stellar protagonist and a thrilling watch.

NARCOSNarcos is a fresh concept that is sophisticated, mature, and gets down to the nitty-gritty. Driven from real-life events, this is incredibly interesting without becoming a documentary. Showcasing the immense talent from all parties involved, this is not only informative and factual, but it draws your attention and holds it throughout each episode. While this is predominately in Spanish, it never once crosses your mind, as its compelling and intense tone keeps you engaged regardless if you're reading subtitles. Being one of the few series to have fitted and well-timed narrating, this never skimps on the determined development in doing so. Being well written and having candid performances, this is a sharp series that is thoroughly worth the watch.

A TEACHERWhile the message of this series is the accurate, uncomfortable, and shocking truth that is grooming, the content within isn't as quality as the theme. With just about every scene becoming intolerable due to the awkward and painful situations, even with this being a part of its goal, it turns into an excruciating watch rather than anything compelling. However, the real issues lie within the incoherent of the plot. The last few episodes take a dramatic shift that leaves the developmental arc room to grow but isn't quite fit within the rest of the series. At the end of the day, there are too many aspects to nitpick within this unprepared story; the central idea of A Teacher is notable, but this adaption of it isn't.

CRIMINAL MINDS
This show, without a doubt, is one of the most addicting. Though each episode entails similar construction and details, the development of characters throughout seasons is substantial. While I will admit the write off of certain characters, introduction/disappearance of new ones and the last two seasons got away from the common good, that doesn't control the substantial entertainment value this provides. The intensity of FBI profilers and the personal connection to all characters draw you in. While critically, I have seen much better, as there are numerous continuity and editing issues, entertainment-wise, this is awesome.

NEW GIRL
Truly, this is one of the most consistently hilarious TV shows I have seen. Just about every episode and character can get a genuine laugh that's easily deserved to be a quotable line. Having an awesome cast, each character has such a unique personality that makes for a relatable and realistic adaptation. While I will say this doesn't take much of a developmental ride, it makes for more of just a good time passer rather than a legitimate thing you watch for the plot. Nevertheless, this can be watched at any time and is just a nice, easy, simple laugh.

Ozark: Season 4 Part 1
Ozark is losing its uniqueness the further it gets into each season.
The truth behind it all is that this show no longer has a full-hearted drive like the first and second seasons do. This is filled with only convenient subject matter instead of the essential moments that previously originated from a necessary conflict. Now, the first part of the fourth and final season features the same situations we have already seen, but changes minor details to make it feel new. That being said, this is not bad by any means, it rather is incomparable to what it once was. The last ten minutes of the final episode in itself, however, are enough to make this worth the time. Featuring the truthfully breakthrough performance of Garner, she is utterly impeccable - especially in the point-blank and undeniably broken individual she has become. Furthermore, the score is as pleasing as always and the same goes for the clear image of its directing. Yet, putting the cinematics aside, the grit of what this season holds is nothing of what it used to be - once a moral battle of dark characters and fallouts that you feel in your bones. Season 4: Part 1 is salvaging for the sophistication it once had by re-doing the same issues in different settings. Re-using the same formula and splitting the season into two parts, though, is proving this no longer values the quality of the production, only extending the money it brings in, and it shows. 7/10

OZARK - SEASON 1The first season of Ozark undeniably sets the story for an upcoming and ongoing sophisticated series. Achieving an effortless dark feeling, this captures the attention of viewers upon the first episode. Including incredible performances, clear directing and stellar screenwriting. However, the progression of the first half of the season definitely took longer than need be to get going. Once you get through it, though, it takes off on an incredibly jaw-dropping story that 100% achieves an unmatched vibe.
